The MSc Theoretical Physics is an intensive, research-led course examining foundational topics in theoretical and mathematical physics such as general relativity and quantum field theory, before exploring advanced topics including string theory, quantum gravity, and supersymmetry. The course offers a wide range of optional modules enabling students to specialise or cover many topics in the year, with rigorous training in advanced quantum mechanics, mathematical and computational techniques. Students gain insight into emerging research in gauge theory, black holes, cosmology, dark matter, and gravitational wave physics, culminating in an in-depth supervised research project.
