The MA Social and Political Theory at the University of Exeter provides the opportunity to study the thinkers who have shaped the modern world, including Locke, Hegel, Marx, Foucault, and others, alongside more recent debates in social and political theory. The programme draws upon the diverse interests of its lecturers, engaging with both Anglo-American and Continental literatures and employing analytical and institutional approaches. Compulsory modules in Sources in Modernity and Post-Modernity and Social Theory provide a solid theoretical foundation, while a wide range of optional modules is available in philosophy of social science, science and technology studies, theories of revolution, international relations, and comparative politics.
