The MSc Joint Masters Sustainable Energy Systems is an 18-month international programme delivered jointly by the University of Birmingham and IIT Madras. Students gain a global perspective on sustainable energy by studying in both the UK and India. The programme takes an interdisciplinary approach, covering energy systems and technologies alongside economic models that address climate change and net-zero targets. Core topics include fuel cells and hydrogen, energy storage, solar and nuclear energy, decarbonisation technologies, and climate economics. Students complete an industrial placement with an industry partner working towards a low-carbon future, and undertake a research project with internationally recognised research groups in both countries. Tuition is split between the two institutions: Option 1 (Birmingham-majority) costs INR 300,000 (IIT Madras) + £10,142 (Birmingham); Option 2 (IIT-majority) costs INR 600,000 (IIT Madras) + £7,245 (Birmingham). The displayed tuition reflects the Birmingham component of Option 1.
