The spectacular coastal and marine environments off the vast coastline of Western Australia are shaped by dynamic physical, chemical, geological and biological processes occurring within the Indian and Southern Oceans. The Master of Oceanography emphasises learning through practical work to gain knowledge and skills that underpin understanding of marine and coastal systems, with a focus extending from the nearshore zone to continental shelf waters and the deep ocean. Practical work includes fieldwork, hands-on laboratory work and computer-based problem solving. The course prepares graduates to tackle the challenges presented by rapid climatic and environmental changes in marine and coastal environments. Core units ensure students develop strong interdisciplinary knowledge and technical skills to take advantage of diverse career opportunities in government, industry, consultancies and research institutions.
