Systematic botany is an important component in life sciences, dealing primarily on a science of arranging plants into natural groupings and the naming of these groups. Systematic principles aim to produce classification systems which best express the various degrees of overall similarity between the living organisms. Such systems are used in biology for the storage, retrieval and communication of information and for the making of reliable predictions and generalizations. They are based on as broad as possible study of the variation of living organisms and aim to establish groups, the members of which possess the largest number of common features and exhibit therefore the greatest overall similarity.
