The MA in Irish Studies at Queen's University Belfast is a broad interdisciplinary field drawing on history, culture, politics and society to explore the island of Ireland and its global relationships. The programme enables students to undertake research across a wide range of themes, providing training in research methods across multiple disciplines. The core module examines Belfast as a contested city, exploring how identities have been constructed from the 17th century to the present day. Students engage with colonial and revolutionary history, literature and poetry, music and identity, and the symbolic landscape of walls, memorials and murals. Optional modules draw from history, anthropology and Irish poetry across the wider university.
