The MSc in Emerging Economies and International Development is an interdisciplinary social science degree with a distinct focus on middle-income countries. Students combine training in development theory and practice, political economy, poverty and inequality, gender, and social policy with case studies on a range of regions. The programme examines why some countries grow fast while others stagnate, national and international development strategies, and geopolitical change. Research methods training covers both qualitative and quantitative analysis, applied through a dissertation. The multidisciplinary syllabus spans politics, anthropology, sociology, economics, and history, with options to specialise in regions such as Latin America, China, South Asia, or Africa.
