The MPhil in Heritage Studies is an interdisciplinary programme that equips students with a critical understanding of the diverse uses of heritage in the present. Students develop a critical appreciation of heritage as a public enterprise, examining its theory, values, and uses within the broader context of the heritage sector. The programme trains students to think both reflectively and analytically about the nature of heritage, applying critical thinking and knowledge to particular specialisations and pursuing independent research. Topics covered include heritage management, ethics, epistemic and political implications of heritage theory and practice, and the agents and instruments involved in heritage governance.
