The MPhil in Economic Research provides a solid foundation for those who wish to pursue doctoral study. Running from October to the end of July with a preparatory course in September, it involves thorough training in the core areas of economics: microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. Students are also required to explore one specialised area in depth through optional papers, beginning the process of identifying a research topic. The programme equips students with advanced analytical tools and independent research skills, and prepares written work to a strict timetable. Successful completion requires an average mark of at least 70% in the coursework element for consideration for PhD progression.
