The MSc Physician Associate Studies at Birmingham integrates clinical theory and practice over two years to train graduates for the physician associate role across primary and secondary care. The programme comprises six taught clinical modules, a 40-credit dissertation, and 1,600 hours of clinical placement or simulated activity. Year one focuses on adult general medicine, foundational clinical skills, research methods, and early patient contact including general practice experience and a fourteen-week hospital attachment. Year two deepens knowledge in clinical specialties including acute and emergency medicine, surgery, obstetrics, paediatrics, psychiatry, and community medicine through problem-based learning, lectures, and clinical rotations.
