The MA English Literature at Birmingham allows students to engage deeply with literary and cultural texts across key periods, developing rigorous research and analytical skills suited to doctoral study or diverse careers. Students may follow pathways in Medieval Literature, Long Nineteenth-Century Literature, Modern and Contemporary Literature, or Popular Literature and Culture. The programme comprises 120 credits of taught modules and a 60-credit dissertation of 12,000 words. Core modules include Literature, Communication and Community and Textualities and Materialities, with optional modules spanning Modernism, Contemporary Literature, and Cultures of Popular Literature.
