The MSc Sociology provides an in-depth understanding of sociological theory and methodology, with a focus on the research specialisms of the Department of Sociology. Students examine classical theory including Marx, Weber and Nietzsche alongside contemporary social thought, and learn advanced qualitative methods such as participant observation, interviewing, and focus groups. Optional courses allow students to explore globalisation, peace and conflict studies, comparative European societies, and gendered violence. The programme suits both sociology graduates and conversion students, and culminates in a 15,000-word dissertation.
